Ion Endoluminal System Bronchoscopy

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a suspicious lung nodule and you need to determine with certainty if it is benign or cancerous, our doctors offer the ion endoluminal system. Ion is used to perform robot-assisted bronchoscopies to take a closer, less invasive look at lung nodules. This system can reach all 18 segments to the lung to obtain a biopsy, allowing for more precision, reach, and a more accurate diagnosis.

Ion begins with PlanPoint software, which uses a computerized tomography (CT) scan of your lungs to generate 3D airway trees. An interface allows our physicians to identify a target and then create a pre-planned path to the lung nodule.

During the Ion endoluminal bronchoscopy, an ultra-thin catheter and integrated vision probe provide direct vision into your lungs, while shape-sensing technology provides precise location and shape information throughout the biopsy. Once at the target location of the nodule for biopsy, the catheter will lock in place and your physician will insert biopsy tools through the catheter to take a sample of your lung tissue.

This procedure allows our surgeons to perform needle aspiration via non-invasive procedure, which means less damage to surrounding tissue and faster recovery times. Talk with your physician to find out if you are a good candidate for an Ion endoluminal system bronchoscopy.
