BSA Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ for Patient Safety by Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Amarillo, TX, (April 30, 2020) – BSA Health System is the only hospital in the Texas Panhandle to be awarded an ‘A’ for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2020 Hospital Safety Grade. This is the second consecutive time that BSA has received this national distinction, which recognizes achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.

“This level of achievement is a direct reflection of the commitment of our employees and medical staff to safety and quality, focus on the patient, and teamwork,” said Bob Williams, BSA President and CEO. “During this difficult time, the recognition means even more and speaks to the diligence of each of our team members.”

“Providing the highest quality of care and continually evaluating processes to improve patient safety are key health system goals that we truly feel make BSA a great place for patients,” added BSA Chief Medical Officer, Michael Lamanteer, M.D. “We are proud of this recognition because it highlights our team’s dedication to ensuring our patients receive the best care possible.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national organization committed to improving healthcare quality and patient safety for consumers. Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and the results are free to the public.

“As the Nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and health care workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We hope this ‘A’ helps to thank the people who work and volunteer for BSA Health System. They are role models in putting patients first, and their service has been extraordinary in our country’s time of need.”

BSA was one of only 87 hospitals in Texas awarded an ‘A’ in the spring 2020 update of grades. To see BSA’s full grade details, and how other hospitals rated, visit hospitalsafetygrade.org.
